NBA Stock Market: Stuckey Has Pistons Pushing Forward

Tayshaun Prince is Detroit's most consistent player (Photo via flickr.com/Jeffrey Simms Photography)

Every week here at NBA Outsider we look at which teams and players are hot and who's not from the Association. Here's the contenders for the first week of 2009...Rising:Detroit Pistons - Rip Hamilton, Rasheed Wallace and Antonio McDyess have all missed time recently for Detroit, yet the Pistons have somehow found a way to win seven in a row. Their latest win came on Sunday night when a last-second Allen Iverson floater was goaltended by the Clippers' Al Thornton to give Detroit the 88-87 win. A big part of their success has been the play of Rodney Stuckey, who is averaging just under 23 points per game during their seven-game winning streak. The Pistons are 13-3 with Stuckey as the starting point guard, and it clearly seems obvious at this point that he'll be sticking around.Kevin Martin (Kings) - Martin had missed 22 of Sacramento's first 24 games with...

Stuckey pours it on as the Pistons winning streak goes to 6

Chauncy Billups who? Rodney Stuckey poured in 38 as the Pistons slipped past the Kings. 98-92.The Pistons were short three players seeing McDyess, Hamilton, Wallace all out with various nagging injuries. Playing with 9 players didn't seem to bother the Pistons advance over the listless Kings. Stuckey dominated the game with good jump shots and driving past any King defender thrown at him. NBA coaches should to start to take notice of Stuckey for the NBA all star team. His caliber of play right now is top 5 in the Eastern Conference right now. Will he make the all star team this year? What do you think?    ...

Fantasy Player: Tayshaun Prince

In their matinee home game on New Years Eve, the Pistons toppled the New Jersey Nets by the final score of 83-75.  The main storyline of the night, no it wasn't any highlight real dunks, or amazing last second bucket, but it was Vince Carter getting ejected early in the second quarter. Vince was given his first technical after arguing an out of bounds play that he thought should have gone the otherway.  He claimed that it had gone off of Allen Iverson and then out of bounds and because of his arguing he was given a technical foul, his first.  After that Vince thought the referee Derrick Stafford said something inappropriate to him and was given his second technical for reacting. 'Vince thought the ball went off Allen (Iverson) and said something, and that's when he got a technical,' Frank said. 'That's when the official said something that Vince didn't think was appropriate and he reacted. We felt it was unjust that he got ejected.' The Pistons had a huge night  as they played shorthanded for most of the game, the Associated Press reports that the Pistons started the game with two key guys out of the line up in Rip Hamilton, and Anotonio McDyess.  But, Rasheed Wallace would soon join them on the DL due to a foot injury late in the first half of play, and the Pistons were still able to hold the Nets to a season low in points. 'When any team in the league loses three of their top six guys, things are going to change for them,' Pistons coach Michael Curry said. 'Luckily, a lot of other guys stepped up.' One player that stepped up for the Pistons last night in a injury riddled team was Tayshaun Prince, and he gets the honor of being the Pistons Fantasy Player of the Night. Tayshaun Prince had a huge night on the offensive and defensive side of the ball.  He stepped up when the team needed him most and helped them pull out the victory to help the Pistons win their fifth game in a row.  Here are his numbers: Minutes Played: 44min Points: 16 Fieldgoals and Percentage: 5/10  or 50% from the floor Freethrows and Percentage:  6/7  or 85.7%   Rebounds: 7 Assists: 5 Turnovers: 1 Another win, Congratulations Pistons. The Knee Jerks: WTF with Eno and Al - Webisode 14: Morons to the left of me, small ball to right, here I am, stuck in the New Year with Eno

HAPPY NEW YEARS DAY to all the readers of TWFE! Also, HAPPY KNEE JERKS DAY! Yes, today is holiday. Even though you may be nursing a hangover and watching football (or outdoor hockey), it being Thursday, The Knee Jerks make their weekly appearance. The new year be damned, we are here to serve. For those not yet in the know, every Thursday I chat with with Mr. Journalist, Greg Eno, who's collected works can be found at the newly redesigned Out of Bounds. He takes time out of his busy schedule to chat with this shiftless, layabout, goofball blogger, where we get our snark on regarding all things Detroit sports, and whatever the Hell else we feel like spewing opinions upon.In today's holiday editon of The Knee Jerks, we take a look at the morons running the Lions, why William Clay Ford continues to hire morons, the odd passion...

Curry To Go Back To Big Lineup

Chris McCosky  wrote a great article about Micheal Curry and how he may be rethinking his small line-up strategy. The only advantage that can be seen from reverting back to the bigger starting line-up is that there will be that defensive aspect that the Pistons have been desiring for so long during this season.  "The big lineup makes us better defensively and at the end of the day we have to make sure we are good enough defensively," he said. But who would they have to sit down onto the bench to allow the bigger men to start.  It would have to be either Rip Hamilton or Allen Iverson.  Rip is able to play Allen Iversons spot as SG and Rodney Stuckey is doing well at the PG spot so really that would be the only spot for him to go.  The only problem with that though is that Allen Iverson has been known as a top scorer in the league averaging more than 20 ppg throughout his carrer. One positive that points towards his maybe willingness to come off the bench is that he was happy with his 15 point performance against the Magic. "I feel good right now," Iverson said. "I look at the bigger picture right now. I have won scoring titles. I have scored more than 23,000 points. I've had 50 and 60-point games. I have done a lot of things scoring the basketball. I've got bigger goals now." Michael Curry has a few decisions ahead of him as Rip Hamiltons groin has still put him day-to-day and whatever the outcome the Pistons will still continue to win games....

Pistons 88, Magic 82 - Pistons win another with solid defense

The Detroit Pistons won another game by smothering the Orlando Magic with blanket like defense. Pistons won with a strong perfomance from Rodney Stuckey. More and more, the Iverson for Billups trade is making sense. It looks like Stuckey was ready to become the starter at the beginning of the year. Hats off to Antonia McDyess with a gutsy performance. After getting knocked around in a mid air collision, he came back to finish the ball game. A looking at the Pistons record, where would they be if they had McDyess the whole time? Good question there....

Thanks, and enjoy!Rising:Boston Celtics - Honestly, this team has been on the rise this entire season, piling up wins at a rate that we haven't seen since the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls. They now have won 18 in a row and have tied the league mark for the best start (26-2) for a team with two losses. Their recent success has been due in large part to the play of point guard Rajon Rondo. When the team needs him to score, he does it (as we saw on Sunday in the C's win...Read more

NBA Stock Market: CP3 steals way into record books

Chris Paul shoots over Leon Powe of the Celtics (Photo via flickr.com/Eric Kilby)

With everything that happened during yesterday's busy night in the NBA, there's a lot to get to, so I'll just get right to it: here's the league's big movers and shakers.Rising:New Orleans Hornets - Not only did the Hornets mount an impressive comeback win over the Spurs last night (their tenth win in the last 12 games, putting them in first place in their division), but they also got to see some history. During the second quarter, Chris Paul stole an intended pass from Tony Parker, establishing CP3 as the NBA record-holder for most consecutive games with a steal (106).Paul broke a record that stood since 1986, and by the time the streak ends it's likely that it won't be broken for many more decades. The next longest streak by an active player is 22, by Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo. With apologies to Parker, Nash and D-Will, all excellent...Read more

The question posed to our listeners was, "Instead of a buying a brand new Hummer H2, what would you have done with the $80,000 that LeBron James' mother received when he was a senior at St. Vincent-St. Mary?" The best and most colorful response came by way of Jon from The City of Brotherly Love: -- 80K the Bron Bron Way "With $80,000, LeBron's moms was definitely trying to buy her baby a phat ride. No knocking that. So, your boy needs a car. He's also 6'8" and 240 pounds, so no Fiats. Your manchild needs room. So, here's what I suggest: Forget the Hummer. Top ten surprises of the NBA season so far

With most teams past the 10 game point in the NBA season, subplots and storylines are emerging. While the Lakers and Celtics are clearly the top teams in the league, LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers are playing well as the best of the rest. Other teams have not been up to the challenge. Heading in to Tuesday's action, here are the top ten surprises of the NBA season so far... 10. Mark Cuban's alleged insider trading - The league's most entertaining and passionate owner has been on the wrong side of David Stern before. He has a reputation for being a bit of a rogue, but always follows the law. The most surprising aspect of the story to me is public reaction fueled by speculation. Sure, the NBA is still reeling from image issues of the Tim Donaghy scandal two summers ago. But every piece of gossip is not...Read more
